About John Fulwider

John Fulwider founded Fulwider Partners. He invented the One-Day Consensus Conference while studying and working with deliberative democracy, which is the more academic side of efforts to engage diverse stakeholders in decision making. He received moderator training from the respected National Issues Forums and has facilitated several consensus conferences, as well as provided report writing and other technical assistance for clients in Nebraska and Kansas.

John began his study of consensus-building processes at the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, where he helped facilitate deliberations on difficult public policy topics. He is now completing a PhD in political science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he regularly teaches undergraduate classes in public policy and policy analysis. He holds a bachelor's degree in news-editorial journalism and a master's degree in political science, both from UNL. His master's thesis explored the roll of the moderator in deliberative discussions. Before all of that, John worked for five years as a newspaper reporter and editor.

John's other professional activities form a bridge between his consulting and academic work. He is a member of the board of directors of the American Society for Public Administration, Nebraska Chapter; a member of the American Political Science Association; and a past manuscript reviewer for the academic journals Political Psychology and American Politics Research.

In his free time, John enjoys rock climbing, traveling, trying new foods, and cooking.
